Our good friend, Pierre, was injured last evening (6/26/2008), when a car pulled out in front of him, as he was biking home from work.
Pierre said, "Thanks for your concern; I just had an mri and saw the surgeon. Although he won’t know until Monday when he can read the mri, he thinks I tore 1 or 2 muscles that make up the rotator cuff. Anyway, I’m anxious to find out and get things over with."
Please, keep Pierre in your thoughts as he recovers.

From Pierre via email:
I was riding home from work (as I do almost every day) and got smacked into by a car in the HEB (620/Anderson Mill) parking lot. I always cut through because the cross street at the corner is suicidal (at least I thought it was). Anyway, I was following a car which abruptly turned right, hitting me square in the front. I flew some 10-15 feet and landed on my shoulder and head. By the way, for those of you crazy enough NOT to wear a helmet take it from me; it saved my life, without any doubt. When my helmet hit the pavement, I heard an enormous sound from my helmet; I thought someone had hit me with a baseball bat, but when I came to, I felt absolutely no pain in my head. On the other hand, my shoulder was and is killing me. Anyway, the ambulance came (as well as a slew of other folks), and pronounced me “not dead yet”. Went to the ER and got X-Rays and the doc said I had no fractures that they could see. Got an MRI today and saw the surgeon who thinks I tore muscles in the rotator cuff. And that’s the ole story folks..
Now, here’s what I found out later: I had a couple of flats this past week, including one the day before. I must not have re-engaged the break lever that tightens the break calipers (need to loosen to take the wheel off), so when I pulled hard on the rear break, it did not slow me down! I can’t believe I did that, but it shows you that even an old guy (supposedly experienced) like me can make mistakes! The next lesson to be learned: DO NOT follow too close, no matter how confident you are or how well you think you can judge traffic patterns! Cars move a whole lot faster than we do!
Anyway, as you can see, I’m bummed about my stupidity..

Wow, Pierre!
We are so glad to know you are in good spirits and able to tell your story.
It is much more difficult to stop a bicycle going 20-25 mph than it is a car.
We'll keep you in our prayers,
Kat & Justin

Ahhh! Anderson Mill is dicey enough by itself.
